29 Jun 2011 (Wed) - Isn't Easy Giving Up Shopping

I started this entry back on Monday.. Right after Lucas went to bed.. Thinking to myself how nice it is for him to go to bed early and me having some personal time to blog and to do a face mask... only to have him waking up and demanding for my attention.. motherhood is sure tiring!

He has recovered from his urinary tract infection.. And his sleeping pattern is slowly going back to normal.. He still wakes up for milk every 4 to 5 hrs and I'm trying to drag it to 6hrs or more.. I used to think that having insufficient sleep is a major torture.. But try having interrupted sleep - waking up every other hour! Pure torture ok!! I would rather have a short but uninterrupted sleep anytime!

It was time for yet another checkup at my gynae's yesterday.. Really dislike these checkups.. And I do wonder if all these checkups are necessary. Melvin was on leave so that he could accompany me for the blood test. Yes, I'm afraid of needles and scare of injections! Anyway, everything went well yesterday and we left the clinic much earlier than we expected. Left Lucas with my mum as I didn't want him to be crying for milk or sleep at the clinic.

What can i say... It was super nice to have some time away from my baby.. To shop and try on clothes.. To be able to chit chat over meals.. Much as I love to be a mum and spending time with Lucas.. I also appreciate the precious personal time that I get away from him. Headed to ION after my checkup for a leisure afternoon.. It was like old times.. I got a silk top from Zara.. And a pair of special design Havaianas slippers too. We checked out new stores.. I like some of the bags at Samantha Thavasa - very cute! Stop for a cup of tea before continuing with the shopping.. So relaxing!

I guess it is why many married couples don't want to have children. They treasure their freedom too much. It is not just a financial burden but also a huge commitment in terms of time and energy.

Lucas is getting bigger and faster in the past month.. He is 10kg at 9 months old and has learned to crawl very fast! He can sit without me supporting him and is learning to stand by holding on to chairs/ bed frame. On some days, he is super annoying with his whining.. On other days, he is plain adorable.. Strangers tell me that he is cute because he is so happy and friendly with everyone.

I think he is like me.. Sociable!

08 June 2011 (Wed) - Lion King Musical at MBS

A couple weekends ago, Melvin got us tickets to catch the Lion King Musical at Marina Bay Sands. Believe or not, it was our first time watching a musical together.. we always go for movies when we were dating, never a musical or concert.

We got my mum and sis to babysit Lucas for that afternoon and we went to MBS a couple of hours before the start of the show to shop and have our lunch.

These pictures were taken mainly for my aunt and cousins in Auckland.. I don't think they checked out MBS while they were here earlier this year... so here goes:

I really like the design of this TWG shop.. very ang mo.. very vintage feel.

 Longchamp anyone?

The foodcourt with skating rink. Don't know what the rink flooring is made of... but definitely not ice.

The food at the MBS foodcourt is very exp. Minimum S$6.80 for a bowl of noodles or a plate of rice. I don't see any fast food restaurant there.. only restaurants.

Our show was at 2pm and this is the waiting area...

This is the curtain on the stage.. heehee, I managed to take a couple pictures of the theater before it starts. There are several levels in this Sands Theater and if you buy the cheaper tickets, perhaps you will be seated further up.

No picture or video of the musical was allowed - no picture of the magnificent show. Melvin bought us expensive tickets and we were seated only 10 rows from the stage, right in the center.. The show was very good... very very good. I was impressed with the amount of dedication put into the props & costumes. The singing and the live band were awesome too. The musical will be showing till July so go get your tickets if you have some spare moolah!

We ended the day with dinner at Waraku Marina Square where I went for pedicure before that.

My Katsu-pasta.. I super love pasta but no creamy one for me pls.

Melvin enjoying his octopus + mushrooms cream pasta.

Tata for now!

03 June 2011 (Fri) - Mum's Pets

My mama didn't allow us to have pets when we were young. She said that pets are such a chore and she simply didn't like any around the house. I guessed having 3 children in a small house was quite enough for her. Pets, be it big or small, will mess up her impeccably neat little house.

Although we really loved to have a dog then.. we knew it was out of the question. However, that didn't stop me or my bro from trying.. we sneaked terrapinns, fighting fishes, a duckling (yes, no joke), 4 baby quails and a dozen of hamsters home.. throughout the years. These pets eventually died or sent away when they got too big to have around the house.

I always suspect mama is a real softie at heart because although she said 'no'.. I caught her spending quite abit of time looking at the animals when we weren't at home. E.g. she was the first to notice that my hamster mama was in labour and informing me that she was going to deliver soon... And when we started working, mama even allowed us to keep Poppy (for awhile) and bro to have several tanks of fish.

But it still came as a surprise when she secretly adopted some birdies recently.

Introducing pigeon mama (the darker one on the left) and pigeon papa (the grayish one on the right). This couple decided to build their love nest on a small piece of concrete floor which is right outside the kitchen's window on the level below us. Seriously, I think they made a bad, bad decision as my mum is a well known neat freak.. and she hates how the pigeons dirtied the place with their poo.

So I don't know what got into her recently, as she didn't disturb the eggs that they laid and soon the babies are hatched.

Daddy with the 2 babies

Mama kept quiet about her pets initially.. she will look at them each day and see how they grew.. After a couple of weeks, she observed that one of the 2 babies was lagging behind in terms of growth.. thus, she took it upon herself to 'help' feed it. On one fine day, she got some bread and started throwing them to where the babies were nesting..

Didn't manage to get any picture on her feeding attempt. But based on what she told me.. The first slice of bread that she threw dropped all the way downstairs... she got better luck with the 2nd slice and it handed next to the weak baby... Seeing that the babies were not eating.. (abit no common sense as the babies won't know how to feed independently yet).. she went to the dining table to get a 3rd slice of bread. But by the time she walked back to the window... tradegy happened.. the 2nd piece of bread was gone.. so was the weak baby!

Initial investigation concluded that the bread lured a crow/ crows to the nest. Being greedy, evil and plain disgusting, it/ they took the weak baby pigeon with them.. for lunch. 2 days have passed and the weak baby is still missing... it's elder and stronger sibling is still around though.

Mama is feeling very guilty over her 'kind-deed-turned-into-murder' action. Her first attempt at having pets isn't so successful after all. Better luck the next time!

*Last that I heard, bro is thinking of getting her a pair of love birds as pets. Honestly, I didn't know that mama is such a 'bird person'.

03 June 2011 (Fri) - Exhausted

Not only the weather is erratic.. Lucas' sleeping pattern is just as bad recently. He had difficulty falling back to sleep when we reached home if we were out earlier the day.

His bedtime is around 8pm and usually he will sleep in the car if we are running a little late. Sleep is good right.. but no.. he would wake up the minute I move him when we reach home. And it will take me forever to pat him back to sleep.. It seems to me that he is tired physically but his mind is just too excited to fall into a sound sleep. In short, he is sleepy but just can't go back to sleep.. and after awhile of trying, he got real impatient and started kicking a fuss... which is a nightmare because all the crying made him grumpier throughout the night.

So we have been sleeping late and waking up every 1 to 2 hrs recently to his crying or tossing & turning. And it has been going on for the last 2 weeks.

All the sleep deprivation is causing me to be very exhausted.. totally no mood to do anything. I just want to lie down and do nothing for most part of the day. My temper is short and I really wonder when will he be "alright" again.
