29 May 2010 (Sat) - Universal Studio and Vesak Day

How I wish a work week will only consist of 4 working days!

This week has been a really good one.. I worked only 3.5 days because we went to Universal Studio for our company 6th anniversary at around noon on Thu.. How good is that huh~?!

First up, pictures taken at our lunch (an early one) followed by the trip to Univeral Studio at Sentosa..

We went to Earle's Swenson for a quick lunch before setting off to Universal Studio.. The quality and taste of the food weren't that nice but we had chosen the place as they served no pork no lard.. suitable for all.

That's me.. can you spot the difference? I think I have put on some weigh on my face..

Getting our tickets to take the Sentosa Express in...

Our MD didn't join us but she walked us to the gate..

Group pic.. hmm.. our staff strength has gotten smaller over the years.. but with business picking up this year.. maybe we will see a bigger team next year..

Can you spot my baby bump?

Sorry for the lack of text on this post.. simply because I have nothing good to say about the Universal Studio.. SG weather is simply unsuitable for open air theme park.. It was soooo HOT!..
I was sweating like mad and the sun was so glaring.. there was lots of tourists and you have to queue at least 30min for the rides.. the popular rides such as the Jurassic Park took 90min just to queue for our turn.. Imagine queueing that long in this weather!.. There is shade but just think about the heat.. and going on the roller coaster under the sun.. wooah.. Will die ok!!
Anyway, the park is such a disappointment.. it is so small.. maybe on 1/3 or 1/4 of the Universal Studio I went in L.A. There is only a short stretch of restaurants/ gift shops, out of the 7 theme sections, 2 main sections were closed (Madagascar & Battlestar Galactica).. They don't even show some of the props used in movies.. a great difference from the Hollywood Universal Studio..
Don't want to complain but it was disappointing.. I didn't do much there since I am pregnant and the weather was unbearable.

Moving on to how I spent my Vesak day.. starting with breakfast at Joo Chiat..

My all time favourite Feifei Wanton Mee... We ordered chicken and they had prawn mee..

Then we went for quick prayers at Joo Chiat Kuan yin Temple..
The Great Singapore Sales is on and we went Takashimaya and Vivocity for shopping afterwards.. sorry no picture as we were busy shopping.. I bought 2 very cute jumpers for my baby from Mother Care..
Yes, I am ready for motherhood.
:-)

19 May 2010 (Wed) - Secrets & Special Power

Humans can never keep a secret. Period.

The building management is doing a fire drill today and I was informed by my company “fire warden” about a month ago. It is usually all hush-hush as the MD of my sister company wants all the employees to participant in the twice-a-year drills. But because I am pregnant, I got special permission to stay in the office. Imagine having to walk down 18 levels of stairs with the extra weigh!

Anyway, I shared the information with my own MD as I was scheduling her appointments and before I knew it, argh.. the secret is out. Most of my colleagues came to know about it. The lesson that I have learned from this.. is to never share a secret and think naively that the other party will not share it with others. Only dead people don’t talk. Full Stop.

On a separate topic, remember my complaint on how those selfish bums on MRTs and buses cannot see that I am pregnant?

Well, I didn’t know I have such hypnotic effect on people.. they will “automatically” fall asleep or suddenly become so concentrated with their mobile phones… see examples..

Ugly Side of Human Nature.

18 May 2010 (Tue) - Boring Tuesday

Hi hi, I am back to work after a long weekend. Went for my monthly check-up on last Fri and it is always such a pleasure to see how much my bb has grown in the past month. He is definitely not a shy boy.. I have no problem in confirming that he is going to be a boy because he always opens his legs wide wide! I have put on 3kg since I found out about the pregnancy which was on my 6th week then.

My tummy did get bigger but some say that it still looks small.. whatever lah.. but I seriously can’t stand those who hog the reserved seats on MRT.. they will pretend they did not realize that you are sporting a bigger tummy.. or they pretend to sleep. And mostly it is the guys who refuse to give up their seats.. tsk tsk.. shame on them.

Stayed at home over the weekend.. cleaned up the house and also did the laundry… but the most satisfying task that I have completed was to iron 2 weeks’ worth of mine and Melvin’s working clothes. I hate ironing ok.. so it was with great discipline to finally finish ironing about 16 – 17 pcs of clothing. Life is quite slow these days.. nothing exciting is ever happening… even the Robin Hood which I watched on my off day (last Fri) was damn boring. Don’t understand the fascination with Russell Crowe.. he doesn’t appeal to me. Infact, I think he has got a fat face.. oops.. my mum will sure scold me if she knew I was criticizing others… she has this strict belief that one should not curse or criticize others, especially during pregnancy.

Come on.. do you believe I will turn into a saint suddenly because I become pregnant? Very difficult leh.. can’t understand why some mothers-to-be can change their diet and even daily routine so drastically. My weakness is anything cold and sweet. Like ice-cream, cold drinks, desserts.. anything that can make me feel cooler.. and quench my thirst… argh! I love my daily cup of tea too, so no plan to drop that habit.

Another 4 more months to go and really counting down…

By the way, heard from my mum that my neighbour, the uncle in his fifties fell from his bed this morning. I think his Chinese tenants (workers from China) found him collapsed next to his bed and came to my mum for help. He was proclaimed dead not by the paramedics or police, but by my mum! Apparently, she went over to check him out with the tenants and proclaimed him to be dead without touching him.. just by a look! 厉害吗?

Quite shocked to hear the news.. you live for more than half a decade and can die so suddenly.. even the giving of a new life takes at least 9 months!

Well, I will say a little prayer for him in my heart and hope he is off in a better place.

15 Apr 2010 (Sat) - Unbearable Warm

The weather is just plain horrible these days! It's so warm and humid.. and with higher body temperature due to pregnancy, I am sweating throughout the whole day!

Sleep... sweat.. eat.. sweat.. doing laundry.. sweat.. even sitting will make me sweat!

Pls let it rain and let it rain real hard.. EARTH- SHATTERING RAIN PLS!

13 May 2010 (Thu) - Pictures

Went shopping with mum and sis last Wed at Orchard.. pictures taken at Orchard Central while having teabreak...

10 May 2010 (Mon) - Poppy

Well, today I am going to blog about my dog.. sort of like a tribute to her.

Her name is Poppy – a kind of flower. (One common species of Poppy is the Opium Poppies which we get drug and food from.)
She is an American Cocker Spaniel. We initially wanted to name her Milla, after the famous actress who starred in Resident Evil series, but after coming across “Poppy”, the name of a contestant on a local beauty contest which airing on the TV that evening… Poppy she shall be!

We bought Poppy from a pet farm in Pasir Ris in March 2003. I can’t recall the exact date but it was close to my birthday… We didn’t go with the intention of buying a dog, more like a casual visit to check out the doggies there. Until we saw her and her brother.. droopy eyes, floppy ears, so young and innocent.. we couldn’t resist her charm and eventually chose her over her brother (who was bullying her a little). Come to think of it now, I suspect she was putting on a show for us last time because she turns out to be extremely fierce loh!

So we brought her back to my home and what a sweet little creature she was! She was so tiny and was exploring the living room slowly… I have had hamsters, terrapins, a duckling, quails, fighting fishes (yes, I know my choice of pets has been strange in the past) but a dog is what I have always wanted. Poppy was the perfect pet and so adorable! That was until the problems surfaced..

She was afraid of being left alone and will whine from the kitchen where we left her to sleep at nights. Maybe she has a poor digestive system, her favorite pastime was to eat her poo.. which irritated and grossed my mum to the max! She was always pooping every few hours and we had to clean her and her mess up. The last straw came when my mum and sis went travelling and I have to rush home during lunch time to check on her.. only find her playing with her poo and shredding the newspapers that I have left in her pen for her to urinate on in a thousand pieces. After sleepless nights of her waking me up with her whines and with no one else at home helping me to clean her up, I asked Melvin to take her away.. something that I still feel guilty about..

He came that morning, right before dawn.. brought Poppy and most of her belongings to his sister’s home. Eventually, she was brought back to his home.. being her sister also couldn’t cope with her. I tried to visit her once a week, then once a month.. sometimes it was even as long as once every 2 months. She never forgot about me and was happy to jump and sit in my laps every times she saw me. Melvin was the patient one who never gave up on her.. trained her to pee on the newspapers which took him a long time for her to pick up. She was a sickly dog.. suffering a genetic disorder resulted her having left hind hip/ knee to grow at a weird angle. It was causing her alot of pain to stand and sometimes she would just drag herself around with her front limbs.. resembling a seal… She was also having seizures which would her to throw up and pee/ poo uncontrollably..

I was really worried when we were preparing for our wedding a couple of years ago.. on how would we cope with her at the new house… Melvin’s mum used to take care of Poppy when she was with them during that few years. We have to squeeze time in the morning to feed and walk her before we leave for work.. and to do the same in the evenings too.. there was alot of worries like how would she cope being at home alone for most part of the day.. well, things did work out eventually, with her being a lazy dog, she loves to sleep and laze the afternoons away. We keep her in the kitchen when we are out and she will go to the toilet when she needs to relieve herself. There are times when we skip her twice-daily walks and she will throw tantrums by peeing and dirtying the kitchen floor.. so naughty right?!

And not start on her temper.. she is one fierce dog loh! She loves to bark at neighbours - kids and karang-guni especially! She will not hesitate to bite if you commit any of the below offense:

1) Get too close to her when her owner is playing with/ cuddling her.

2) Get too close when she is feeding or when we are preparing her food.

3) Run when she is barking at you. *To stay firm and stationery when she is barking/ sniffing you out.

4) She doesn’t play fetch. Don’t you dare to grab her toys when she is playing with them. The last time I did that (on last Sat), I ended up with a bleeding middle finger. :-P

5) She is very prideful and doesn’t like it when you try fooling around with her. She doesn’t like it when you do “neh neh neh boo boo” or “ku chi ku chi” (tickle) actions.. The last time Melvin tried sweet talking to trick her into going back to the kitchen (which was just yesterday), he ended up with a bleeding knee cap. Haha!

So we are talking about a real prideful lady here.. but setting her fierce nature aside, she can be so adorable at times! Like how she would run to the door when I ask her “Has Melvin came home?”.. and how she would rush to the kitchen the minute she hears the sound of me using the chopping board.. she would come running thinking that I am preparing her meals! Sometimes, I would hug her so tightly and the minute she wriggle herself free from me, she would hide under Melvin’s work desk!

Now that I have gotten used to her, I don’t think I would be able to stand coming home and not seeing her. With Melvin barely around at home, she is a treasured companion to me. I am seriously hoping that our future maid is a dog lover too!

07 May 2010 (Fri) - Statistics

Sharing some statistics with you... no, not body statistics lah... Chi Ko Pai

19 weeks = 19 x 7 days = 133 days x 1 time a day = 133 times

Have you guess correctly on what I was counting?

Maybe not... it is the number of times I have vomited in the past 5 months... yes, an estimate of 133 times.. ARE YOU GROSSED OUT OR WHAT?!

1 time a day is a conservative estimate ok.. because on most days I do throw up at least twice.. Of course there are some (rare) days when I am perfectly alright and could keep the food down... so sort of balance out to once a day estimation...

Looked at myself today.. I mean looked real hard at myself... found that I have lost some weight on my arms and legs.. most pregnant ladies worry about the weight gain.. but I have a different set of worries.. keeping food down... so funny to be losing weight on my limbs but gaining weight at the mid-section..

Totally hate those women who say that they glow with happiness during their pregnancies.. radiant my ass loh... don't be kanna cheated by them... I have a couple of friends who are/ were also pregnant.. and they looked tired/ bloated..

Throwing up has become a part of my life.. I carry plastic bags whenever I go.. I know the best position to throw up without staining my tops or dirtying my long untied hair.. the best part is I know when to whip out a bag/ run to the ladies, not too early.. not too late... Am I a natural bulimia or what... I will soon have tiny, rotten teeth from all that gastric acid...

Booohoooo...

04 May 2010 (Tue) - Contradictions

Humans are real contradicting creatures aren’t we?

We want to be loved and treasured, yet the attention mustn’t be overpowering.
We want to be successful in our careers, yet we lament on the loss of freedom in life.
We want the authority, yet we dislike the responsibility that goes along with it.

Is it possible to find a balance for everything in life? Trying to balance work, family life, relationships can be so stressful.. but again we try to ‘balance’ our life to avoid conflicts and unnecessary stress right?

Pls tell me that you agree with me on this.

03 May 2010 (Mon) - Holiday pls!

I want to travel... I want to go abroad... I am so bored and going through the past travel photos are bringing back fond memories of the time spent on the road..

I want to go shopping and I miss the excitment of visiting a new place... I want to try new cuisine.. experience new culture.. see new places..

Am thinking of visiting Bali.. is it safe to travel during pregnancy? Everyone (especially Melvin) is discouraging me...

I am wearing the invisible "Out of Service" till end of this year...
