Thank you for making my wish come true.. Making me a very, very happy woman today!
25 Nov 2011 (Fri) - Poverty
I was chatting with my auntie recently and the topic of poverty came up... If you ask me about my childhood, all I could remember is how poor we used to be. I'm not trying to say that we are the poorest family around but we were definitely under privileged!
Growing up in a household where my dad (an electrician) was the sole breadwinner, money was real tight. It wasn't that we had to go hungry or go without electricity.. but all we could afford back then, was a very, very simple life. Fast food treats, yummy snacks, toys, storybooks, new clothes were out of our league... we only got to enjoy these on rare occasions such as New Year (once a year) or when our uncles bought them for us. I can't tell you how much I detest this type of life where we had to live frugally.
I recalled my primary school days as the worst time of my life. I hated going to school not because I couldn't cope with the school work.. on contrary, I did very well academically. It’s just that we never had the money to pay for the stationery that was needed for art class.. school uniforms.. and those stupid donation cards. Luckily, I had a neighbour who was in the same school as me and I could wear the uniforms that no longer fit her.. but this also means that the colour of my uniforms was very faded and the fabric was often thin from the many washes that it had been through.
Some of you may think I am being very spoilt for complaining.. But honestly, what is there to like about this kind of life? Not to mention, people often treated us like we were 2nd class citizens.. as if being poor is a disease and being close to us means we would surely sponge off them.
Come to think of it.. the only good that I could get out from poverty has got to be that it made us a more hardy person.

Lucas and I have just came back from shopping at Tampines Mall. It is really nice to get out of the house as I totally hate the feeling of sitting at home and facing the 4 walls the entire day... so I could never understand my relatives/ friends who told me that they rather stay at home especially when they have young kids.
I have been keeping myself rather busy the past few days.. cleaning the house non-stop. But I got bored with the housework so here I am.. taking a break from the routine.. blogging while watching the TV.. it is raining heavily outside and I love how I get to smell the salty sea air from my house. This is the bonus of living so far out from the city.. you get to smell the sea and see airplanes landing in a distance.
I have been taking lots of pictures of my little one using my phone camera and here they are...
Taken at Tampines Mall today.. he enjoys taking these car rides.
With his cousins.. went Marina Square and Nex respectively..
Had dinner at Aston for the first time at Airport Terminal 1. Lucas always give this cheeky look when he plays with our stuff.. for this instance, he was extremely happy that he has got his daddy's card.
Loves these 2 pics.. his favourite toy of the moment has got to be this toy car! He can play with it from morning to night!

At a local fashion boutique, comparing two hobo-style tote bags that caught my eyes..
1st bag is of a very simple design and costs alot less than the 2nd bag.. Although the 2nd bag is about the same shape as the 1st bag.. But it has a very exquisite braided handle and nicer interior...
Me - "Which bag is nicer?" (while comparing the 2 designs)
Him - "Looks the same leh... But the 2nd bag has a nicer handle.."
Me - "Yeah.. The 2nd bag is more expensive."
Him - "What is the price?"
Me - "1.1k vs 2.1k"
Him - "Wah!! The handle costs 1k ah..." (loudly)
Sigh What happen to the man who used to tell me not to compromise for the 2nd best?!
:-)

17 Nov 2011 (Thu) - Weakness for bags
Dreaded going to the gynae but then it was time for another check-up.. and so the two most important men in my life accompanied for the visit today... Yes.. Melvin and my baby Lucas... hmm... maybe Lucas isn't much of a baby anymore.. At 13 months, he is learning to walk and progressing quite steadily.. His knowledge of words is also increasing as he can understand me better. Not only that, he is very "political" loh... we observed that he tends to cry more easily when his daddy is around! Example, he was playing rough two days ago and I scolded him for that.. usually he will brush it off.. but on that day, he saw that his daddy was walking into the room and so he put up a show.. cried pathetically so that his daddy will sayang him! Cannot stand him!
Recently a local female portal is holding 6 lucky draws to attract more interest to their forums.. and guess what?!.. The prizes are branded bags! Not just any branded bags.. but LV, Gucci, Prada, MiuMiu, Balenciaga, YSL and... CHANEL! I want!! Just give me any of the bags! But no such luck leh.. they have already given out 4 bags and I really pray & pray that Lady Luck will shine on me and let me win either the remaining MiuMiu or Chanel. In return, I promise to be good and not buy another bag for the next 3 years! (Cross my fingers)
I love shopping but my ultimate weakness has got to be bags.. I remembered day-dreaming about having a branded bag in my secondary school days while others are probably spending the time more wisely. I love clothes and shoes... and makeups... and skincare products.. but I feel that the bag is always the most important accessory in completing any look. We popped by LV today and much as I was prepared to trade my financial freedom in exchange for time to raise my baby personally.. I still can't pretend that I can live without the luxuries that I have gotten used to over the years.
"Artsy, wait for me ok... I promise to 'rescue' you when I go back to work!"
